Mission, vision, strategy and activities

Mission

The Faculty’s mission is to nurture creativity and excellence in the implementation of educational, research, professional and international activities on the basis of ethical principles and academic freedom. In accordance with the University of Maribor, the Faculty has also made it its mission to “care for human beings and sustainable development, to enrich the treasury of knowledge, to raise the level of awareness,and to strengthen humanistic values, the culture of dialogue, the quality of living and global justice.”

Vision

The Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, University of Maribor, has developed into an internationally recognisable centre of innovative knowledge ready to meet the challenges of the 21st century in the fields of chemistry, chemical and biochemical engineering, and in related fields. It is attracting more and more motivated students, high quality university professors and researchers, and it is becoming increasingly interesting for domestic and international scientific networks, and chemical and process industries.

Activities

The Faculty conducts quality and internationally applicable study programmes, placing greatest emphasis on competence and employability of graduates at all levels of study. Education at the Faculty is research based, which is why the results of new knowledge and discoveries are constantly being disseminated in the educational process. Successful research by undergraduate and postgraduate students includes them in the process of creating new knowledge. Our research is oriented towards raising the quality of life, prosperity in general and to a sustainable solving of environmental and other issues. We participate in numerous domestic and international fundamental, applicative and industrial projects. We are involved in various forms of international cooperation, which has given us increasing international recognition. University professors and researchers from abroad significantly contribute to higher quality education and research work at the Faculty. Students, too, participate in exchange programmes with a number of European universities. They also have a tutor system, and their own society called Kemik (Chemist) through which they can take part in various forms of extracurricular activities.
