Research activity

Strategy of Research Work

The main research interest of the laboratory of Inorganic Chemistry at UM will be focused towards further development of modern methods for the synthesis of inorganic nanoparticles. Nanosized inorganic materials have been the subject of intense investigation in recent years due to their unique properties, which has led to their application in different areas like drug delivery, hyperthermia, semiconductors and solar cells. The Laboratory of Inorganic Chemistry will further develop the synthesis of inorganic nanoparticles using inverse micelles method, hydro/solvothermal synthesis, microwave synthesis and ultrasonic synthesis. Properties of the as-prepared materials will be measured by different methods like thermal analysis, X-ray powder diffraction, particle size and zeta- potential measurements and transmission/scanning electron microscopy. Another research area of the laboratory will be the synthesis and characterization of transition metal coordination complexes with N-donor ligands, which will be further extended towards rare earth elements due to their interesting luminescence properties. Research of complex fluorometallates, which are of particular interest in studying hydrogen bonds, will also be continued. The products will be characterized by thermal analysis, powder- and single crystal X-ray diffraction, magnetic measurements and FTIR spectroscopy.
